If you don’t speak up or defend your culture, others will feel entitled to just take it.
When I first joined this app, I was shocked & heartbroken seeing people casually refer to themselves as “digital nomads.” as someone who takes deep pride in my Nomadic heritage🇩🇿, I couldn’t just let that slide. For me, being a nomad is not a trend. it’s a lived legacy, one rooted in history, survival, and a sacred relationship to land and movement. It’s not just about travel, it’s identity.
I’ve already had to exist in a world where films like Dune co-opt Arab and North African aesthetics—using our literal actual names, our attire—while completely erasing us from the screen. that is erasure.
some people called me ‘annoying’, idc tho.. It doesn’t change the fact that since I’ve started calling it out, the use of “Digital Nomad” has noticeably declined.
thank you to everyone who heard my concern! I know the internet is vast, but it did mean a LOT to stop seeing that phrase 2 replies
