Compared to Nouns, the auction revenue for LilNouns is practically negligible. Should we start viewing LilNouns as an on-chain business entity that needs to generate revenue (through services or paid products)? I'm wondering if we're too stuck in the "public goods," "non-profit," and "headless brand" narratives while ignoring our ability to actually sustain ourselves? Nouns gets consistent auction revenue, and all NounishDAOs followed this model. There were tons of articles and posts praising this approach in recent years, but everyone seems to deliberately ignore an obvious concern: what happens when new auction revenue stops while the treasury keeps flowing toward things with no ROI? Do NounishDAOs just die? And if financial ROI is too narrow a view, then how can purely influence-based outcomes feed back into the DAO to keep it sustainable?
