some thoughts on the DGEN1
- great launch, OS is smooth, and there is so many room for activities
- the PWA emulator appstore was directly useful with both ENS and Safe, which is typical Ethereum wallet maintenance. other apps like FrenPet and dDocs also work, so there's real promise.
- ethOS is very open to modification, so other appstores like F-Droid seem to work, and there are other third-party FOSS apps which significantly increase the experience, however setting up without conceding a typical SIM card and appstore registration like Google Play trades away a lot of options, like which Farcaster clients are available.
- the CHAD assistant looks promising, though it depends on openrouter, and I barely managed to run gemma, but I'm confident mobile reasoning is mostly undiscovered still.
in the future, I think Hub subscription can be bundled with eSIM, so a dedicated Farcaster client on a prepaid would make sense, maybe other amenities instead of separate onramps. on the other hand, I think that DGEN1 is in a twilight class of device that is moderately secure as it's mobile, but most capable of independently managing crypto when it's on home network.
to that conclusion, I think there's a lot of promise between peripheral devices like smartglasses and onchain games, or another kind of promise in constructive autonomy. protocols like ZAMM (http://zamm.finance/predict) allow for permissionless betting, and one would assume that these devices can become an entire class of taxpayer for games of chance, perhaps benefactor for smarter public funding of dependencies in the general vicinity of https://source.android.com/. then again, these devices can perform a plethora of tasks when the user is idle, which can be monetized. or more existentially, they can be keepers of any kind of DAO which willfully drives adoption and enrichment.
kudos to Freedom Factory for being in the arena, right now. 1 reply
