Just added a new rule setting in @modbot: Check if the user is a channel member of /xxxx.

For example, if you're a member of /xxx, you can automatically join /yyy.

I call this "delegated or composable moderation". 😂 😂 

It invites people who have already been verified by moderators of other channels.

But effectively: 
follower = read access
Member = read and write access 

Non member comments get hidden in the “see more” replies button, whereas members’ get shown. Members can bring the see more replies up by engaging with them

Why can't I request to join a channel?

See the points from the FAQ below, but basically we wanted to avoid creating yet another inbox for owners. Additionally, owners may not want to have people requesting to join. Your channel, your rules.

Additional thoughts 

1. Channels are not hashtags. We tried that version for the last year or so. Didn't work. With the new direction, they are communities run by individuals or small groups. They are opinionated. We think that's a good thing.

2. One way to think of channels now is they are text-based Twitter Spaces—some people on stage, but a large audience.

3. Reminder: you can always cast in your home feed (goes to all of your followers) or create a new channel.

4. There are already a bunch of tools like Cura from @openrank, /channel-kit from @zachterrell, or @modbot from @haole to let channel owners opt in to have request to join flows. Or token gate with @moxie.eth or @hypersub.

5. We added a link in bio that works with frames to help make this easy.

On why channel requests are not a thing: 

Makes sense to me, I think the hashtag model made spraying content across farcaster the norm, whereas I personally prefer a more curated experience of mindfully higher signal casting into communities ✨

Just shipped on Paragraph: a new metrics page for your posts, showing all key stats & discussion (including all casts about your post on Farcaster!)

This is displayed on a new dashboard we're beginning to rollout to all writers.

My 2 cents  on how to manage channels in the new reality that starts Friday:

1. Make membership cost something meaningful - $ deters spam 

2. Make every member feel like an owner. You don’t shit where you eat. 

3. Be ok with casts from members that you don’t necessarily like yourself 

4. Ban bad actors fast and frequently. Show your community that there are acceptable and unacceptable norms.

Taking this suggestion into account for my channels ✨ 

My plan is to find balance with varying levels of access based on the style of the channel 

Could even be subscribing on @paragraph, the “human” attestation on @icebreaker, tokengating with @moxie.eth or @hypersub, art ownership on @zora  or @manifoldxyz

The sentiment in this piece by @jaredhecht.eth is so real. Back in the day there was just one online place where we hung out, until Facebook basically re-wrote the game. Maybe it's a function of getting older and having more responsibilities, but the concept of the 'internet home' seems to have disappeared. MSN Messenger, Hi5, Facebook and then Twitter were vital but often just one at a time. 

Now it's a fragmented mess, and despite Discord's best efforts to be the MSN messenger of today, there's a secret sauce missing. User experiences are objectively better, but I feel less psyched to use these services that I used to. Are algo-driven feeds not sparking the same level of joy? Maybe that secret sauce was the luxury of being online 24x7, and I'm chasing the dragon. 

Can Farcaster become this new platform? What needs to be done to bring it there? And what sort of things would you like to see put in place to make it more comfortable?
