One of the best things to come from the internet is that you can actually be friends with people who share common values or interests vs needing to settle for the people who live in close geographical proximity to you

You're absolutely right about that, you can develop friendships all over the world no matter religion nor cultural values and geographical position. Those friendship do you learn a lot from. Also getting a better understanding and compassion for people.
