Open source this, open source that How about you open your code editor and build something yourself instead of demanding that a company give you all of the pieces you need? So sick of the entitlement from some devs on here, most apps wouldn’t even get retained usage if you could clone Warpcast anyway Enough.

Would agree with you if we were not talking about by far the most dominant client for a decentralized social protocol Companies (rightfully) don’t want to compete with warpcast so we are not seeing adoption of alternative clients, which totally undermines key features of decentralized social Warpcast being open source (even just as a reference) would help prevent a lot of expensive work from being duplicated and level up the average farcaster client standard

A complete - server and client - set of reference implementations for an open source protocol is not entitlement, it's standard practice.

Is it really entitled to ask a private company asking devs to build on their open network for some open source code? Code by itself isn’t enough to make a successful product, but it would certainly help.

Until Merkle opens up DCs/group chats, I don’t think an alt client can ever actually get many users.

But retained usage on any one app is not the goal. Usage of the network is. I think the close sourcing is deliberate tho to encourage devs

"open source this, open source that" nope, just open source warpcast... ... which is built by the billion dollar unicorn who fundraised on a promise of decentralized web3 social, who controls the whole network and protocol and maintains a centralized advantage ... in web3, where all the big clients and nodes are *always* open source ... in the community that enjoys the reputation of being a place for builders building in public someone else building an open or better competitor DOES NOT SOLVE THESE ISSUES #opensourcewarpcast

I understand this but not all open source advocacy is about entitlement, most times it’s about innovation

Agree. The most important "closed" aspect of farcaster is the fact that it's direction is controlled by a private company, and all the decisions are made by them, and these decisions will always try to benefit the private company, not the open protocol. You can suggest things but the last word is on them. The code not being open sourced is not as important as that. Trying to directly compete with warpcast would be dumb and "unfair" anyways even if they open sourced it.
