I understand the sentiment behind channel rituals but they feel... insincere?

They flip the "work" from the moderator back to the members which can be okay if the mod is also putting in some work but given that they're automated and not dynamic they come across as "set it and forget it"

They generate a Schelling point. I discover at least one interesting thing per week as a result of this ritual. 

Is it top 10% content? No.

But anything above mean is worth it imo. We need more content.

I don't doubt they generate some replies (although I think your rituals generate way more replies than the average ones do) but I think they'd be more effective if the mod themselves kicked off the conversation rather than just asking the question

I would say that part of connecting with a community and moderator is their curatorial voice and the culture they built/building, which in many cases is why you were drawn to it to begin with. I'm still very big on human moderation, esp in a world where everyone is opting for automation, which implies a high degree of homogeneity.
