Empathy really blurs the line between understanding and indulgence. This is why I treat empathy as neutral, just like intelligence. Sometimes it is sufficient, sometimes it just doesn’t cut it. Both are cognitive processes; one is simply interrelational and the other is analytical. Both can be and are often applied wrongly.
