Every streaming TV show represents a (min) 20-30 hour commitment ... But the incentives for quality are deeply misaligned. I made an exception with Severance and regret it. Back to films after the finale. https://open.substack.com/pub/trungphan/p/the-case-against-streaming-tv-shows?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1mt65z

Great read, love Trung Sums up exactly why i only have apple and hbo and am selective on what i consume Severance and The Penguin are the only shows since GOT that have genuinely held my attention and have me excited Ben confirmed that they have the ending for Severance so i’m hopeful this is only 4 seasons (max), secretly hoping it’s only 3 though

Yes, I've been saying this ever since Firefly and ppl been looking at me like I'm crazy. I want TV shows to write the ending first and commit to it. Then make the show. 5 seasons MAX. 3 is honestly perfect. Rarely is anything good after that. Beginning, story, ending. Why is that complicated? Until we turn off the boob tube and stop watching the slop, it'll keep coming at us. Punish them for exploiting our time and attention.

The irony of this critique is he goes on and on about not stretching out a story…

I never watch series... 😬 Films and docos only. And I think you are spot on. Nothing good can come out of 10x the duration of a story.

pro move is to never watch a series in-progress (can't say i live up to it tho) true outside of tv as well (books, comics/mangas etc)
