HAPPENED

Crypto used to be glorious. Irrational. An alternative that was as resistant and uncontrolled as it was revolutionary 

It was hope. Escape. A chance. It was unapologetically us vs. them (where the them wasn’t another blockchain or bag holder)

It was fun.

Now, even the most obvious meta is also the darkest and unhuman, with each new AI-focused project seemingly one step closer to replacing the things that made us happy 

It all used to be built on community when that was still necessary and unbotted

It used to not need a token or CA

In 2018, at a mainstream financial media outlet I pitched doing a crypto show and got laughed out of the room 

My manager called me a F— up.

Now crypto is covered everyday as another thing to be packaged, re-hypothecated, leveraged and sold 

Is it a security? Does that matter?

As that question melts away under a new administration, it almost feels like a battle victory in a lost war

Maybe it was foolish to ever think otherwise

I prefer to hang onto the belief that Web3 could mean something different than what came before
