The experience of a new Farcaster user who's also new to web3 is very different from 1) those already in web3 and 2) FC OGs. Think of FC as a "community of practice", a "group of people who share a common concern, a set of problems, or an interest in a topic and who come together to fulfill both individual and group goals." Visualize FC as a set of concentric circles. At the core are the OG FC users, then degen royalty and onwards. It's you're new to web3 when you first join, you probably exist of the periphery of the outermost circle. You don't know the culture. You don't know the vocab (mint, attestation, Base, onchain, etc.). Degen and Base seem equally big. You don't know one user with a lot of followers from another. You certainly don't know what's up with all of the emojis in people's usernames. But you want to move closer to the center, so you try to adopt the culture of the people you see most frequently. Well said fren. At one point i wanted to onboard my wife (zero web3 knowledge apart from btc and eth) badly here as i met so many cool people and learnt so much but then i thought more about it and realised she would not understand 90% of casts and would feel discouraged to continue learning. This is an amazing gathering place for web3 geeks, builders, enthusiasts, artists, but still not friendly enough for normies i think. That's why i love it though :)

Thanks. Similarly, I've only onboarded a couple of friends. You have to have a particular personality to navigate the waters here. I doubt many people will read and engage with this somewhat academic cast, but I do think the communities of practice framework is really useful for describing it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_of_practice

This is too academic for me :) Who did you onboard and how do they feel now? Did they adapt and become part of the community or are they lurking from the shadows and trying to understand what FC is all about?
