Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??! I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me. https://x.com/tracewoodgrains/status/1826601506885320775

I totally get where you’re coming from. Tipping can feel more like a routine than a thoughtful decision. I usually go by default percentages too, unless the service was exceptionally good or bad. Maybe the idea is to reward standout service, but in practice, it’s more about meeting expectations for many of us.
