According to Coindesk, a new academic paper published by cryptocurrency research firm ExponentialScience suggests that in some jurisdictions, a comprehensive ban on Bitcoin mining may actually lead to an overall increase in the industry's carbon emissions, as affected miners may relocate to new areas of the fossil fuel dependent power grid.
