I’m a fairly technical iPhone user but despite my attempts, can’t get them installed. I have scriptable, run it but it always has a blank screen and I don’t see how to save it to my home page

Now just go to your iPhone home screen. Long press on the screen and open widgets menu ("+" at the top left). Search for the "Scriptable" app. If you can't find Scriptable app in the list with widgets, you need restart your iPhone! Then add Small Scriptable widget to one of your screens. Let me know if this helps!
