This deserve a much longer post, but let me try.

I can't be alone in noticing the big shift in the last 1-2 years in how the ruling class communicates & acts.

I think it's mostly driven by the fact that AI significantly changes the power dynamic between labor and capital; and the ruling class realizes they don't have to play "nice" anymore.

Palestinian Gen0cide was a big catalyst too; because it's been so openly committed and the only way to ignore it has been surfacing supremacist tendencies even many educated people internally carried. A point of no return.

Meanwhile, Microsoft for the first time admitted that AI isn't about productivity but about labor replacement. Anthropic is working with US military. Altman, Zuckerberg kissing Trump's feet. Musk, Thiel, Andreessen, even Brian Armstrong are now openly spreading far-right conspiracy theories.

Callousness is not limited to tech either. Journalism (NYT), healthcare (UHG), education (Col.Uni.); all power players are brazenly attacking the 99%.

Anyone else starting to get worried about this rise of casual open imperialism? Like, not "peaceful trade at prices social justice activists don't like" imperialism but actual "let's go conquer stuff" imperialism. I know it's "meant to be a joke", but often such jokes are a first step to normalizing something dark...

A speciation event

In the 17th century, the French aristocracy, and in the 20th century, the German ubermensch, were unable to evolve into a separate post-human species. They needed peasants to produce food and soldiers to operate tanks. Now AI is solving those problems.

I disagree with @vitalik.eth that we're witnessing new imperialism. I agree with @chainleft that our ruling elites no longer bother to pretend. Imo they're in full speciation mode. The popularity of pro-speciation ideologies like longtermism and posthumanism can be a part of this evolutionary shift.

It's even possible that the West's open support for the open genocide of Palestinians isn't a revival of ancient King Josiah-style beliefs, but rather mental preparation for the global solution of the "useless 99%" problem. We need to get used to the mass killing of "human animals" so we don't protest too much when it's our turn.

First od all, people live in either peaceful or interesting times. We live in interesting ones. It is interesting that in the past we had to adapt to nature, the dangers it brings, in order to survive; but at the same time we remained vigilant. 
Now, when in theory we can feel safe, people from the top of our structure are planning how to limit us, but they are also doing it in a way that is supposed to lull us, we are supposed to remain unaware of certain actions. But it is also a matter of manipulation and management of society. It would be easier for us to see the threat if it was primary (a roaring lion), rather than on the one hand they calm us down, hide behind researches, and behind our backs they implement their plans.
We have to ask ourself what kind of people will be needed in the future and in what quantity.

Perhaps too much of a shortcut of my thoughts? assuming that one wants to create a strong society, that society must meet certain conditions. A bit like Sparta. The weakest links will not survive. Whoever deals the cards has plenty of tools to manage the 'quality' of people: wars, epidemics, pandemics, nuclear weapons. One can 'thin out' society while at the same time making sure that the strongest individuals survive. results? more space, slower usage of the earth's resources, easier management of smaller groups of people. reduction of spending on  assistance for the less talented etc
