EV share of new car sales in Uruguay growing quickly now higher than US, with 70% from Chinese manufacturers like BYD. Same true in Brazil, which surpassed Belgium in May to be #1 destination for Chinese EVs US not even in the market https://tinyurl.com/yfuet7nw

I think EU imposed importa EV tax, US has 100% for Chinese for obv reason, no wonder you would opt for other. Hyundai is building manufacturing strategically around continents, like Africa and in LatAm too. China has strategy fast lined it by vessels and hijack ports as storage for free as their inland shipping is quite bad, but hey, I'm all in for any form of EVs

yes - and despite the tariffs, it seems that BYD is on track to exceed Tesla in BEV sales worldwide this year https://www.cnbc.com/2024/07/03/chinas-byd-is-set-to-beat-tesla-in-2024-battery-ev-sales.html

I've seen investors memos for BYD, bullish case is they are actually building they own vessels which can fit way more cars per cargo shipment than Tesla, so they are already outperforming at pace of delivery already. Yet not sure about sw, haven't sit in one. Seen lot of them on streets in Norway and Germany.

totally agree software will be critical factor. i haven't been in a BYD, but suspect ux is adapted from a strong Chinese car experience that rhymes with Baidu, Tencent, Alibaba, etc experiences maybe BYD will build cars in the US (or more likely Mexico) like Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, etc
