Surprisingly hard to define. Technically it means that which is hidden, but better defined as metaphysics or esoteric phenomena, spirituality that falls outside of main stream religion. The study and practice of things like hermeticism and kabbalah. Manly P Hall's "the secret teaching of all ages" is maybe best intro
