The Venetian Carnival masks, known as “bauta masks,” had a special design that allowed the wearer to eat and drink without having to remove the mask. 3. Venetian masks are very varied and include many symbolic images, such as the "plague doctor" who wore a long beak filled with aromatic herbs to soften the odors of the sick.

Venetian masks have a rich history and were originally used in Venice as a way for people to conceal their identities and social status. During the Renaissance, Venice was a bustling trading hub, attracting people from all walks of life. The masks allowed individuals to mingle anonymously, breaking down social barriers and providing a sense of freedom and liberation. Over time, the tradition of wearing masks in Venice evolved, and they became a symbol of the city's unique culture and identity. Today, Venetian masks are most commonly associated with the Carnival of Venice, a world-renowned celebration that takes place every year. During the Carnival, people from all over the world flock to Venice to don elaborate masks and costumes, immersing themselves in the festive atmosphere and indulging in the city's rich history and traditions. In addition to their use in the Carnival, Venetian masks have also been used in various other contexts throughout history.
