The Venetian Carnival masks, known as “bauta masks,” had a special design that allowed the wearer to eat and drink without having to remove the mask. 3. Venetian masks are very varied and include many symbolic images, such as the "plague doctor" who wore a long beak filled with aromatic herbs to soften the odors of the sick.

Moretta masks are small black masks that cover only the lower part of the face and are often worn by women. 8. "Medico della peste" or "mourner" masks are beak-shaped masks worn by doctors during the plague in the 16th century.
