Why are your parents great?

my dad discouraged me from hobbies and told me getting a good job was the only point of life. any accomplishment i told him about he said was shit and not notable

my mom constantly gaslit me. stole from a store on my birthday, got caught, and blamed me for it.

it's amazing i'm here despite having no support system

I can relate to a degree; having parents who neglect or bring you down is incredibly tough, making life a struggle even into adulthood. It's even harder when they have redeemable qualities, as you see both the good and the bad. Setting healthy boundaries and limiting contact requires a lot of mental energy.

Sending hugs and I want u to know I’m happy to have met u. Having built my support system as an adult, I know it’s hard but not impossible to do great things with no support system. It sucks a whole lot less with a crew and celebrating wins and losses with them. I hope you’ve found your people and I’m here too
