most artists tend to be bad at making money or even (un)consciously avoid it. this seems counterintuitive but believe it or not, university art programs condition students to believe that they will be poor and deserve it. it’s truly bizarre once you gain some distance.

I think people get into art in order to get out of a 9 to 5 - unfortunately the grind has now penetrated all aspects of life so people either opt in and try to make money or opt out and live with being broke-ish
