I find the backlash to platforms experimenting with new ways for digital artists to earn money for their work to be fascinating.

If price per work is high, artists like it but the potential market of customers is significantly smaller, especially in a bear market.

If price per work is low, artists don't like it but the potential market of customers is significantly larger, even despite a bear market.

If 2021 NFT mania was an anomaly, then clearly the internet-native approach is lower price, larger market. But emotionally, that feels bad.

Wonder how you bridge that.

We need a best of both worlds strategy to bridge art & content:

Content should not be considered art. Content is what is used to promote art (or other value encapsulant, eg YouTube videos).

Monetizing content via coins or low cost mint meta is great! It leads to sustainable creation, larger audiences, & the micro transaction layer that has been missing from the internet.

But this should not be conflated with low supply, higher cost “art”. Mixing the two makes collectors value art less & artists feel like they’re not appreciated.

The key issue here is that we’re not aligned between creators, collectors, & consumers.

Collectors want collectibles with long term value potential. This aligns with artists, but is a small pool.

Consumers want coins they can speculate with. This aligns with artists wanting to make a living from a larger pool, but can leave Artists feeling undervalued.

Content =/= art
