Having immersed myself so deeply in FC it feels like a step backwards to build an audience on any platform that you do not own.

completely agree. This is the main reason i've struggled with other apps over the last few years. Just doesn't make sense to operate in a way that doesn't include ownership. 

It makes it so much easier to link the social graph concept to ownership having the fc example too, for new people
