The signals that tend to do very well fall into one of three categories: 

1. Graph based -- spammers often share similar patterns of activity which can be used to catch them 

2. Behaviors - they also tend to do things a certain way, because they're being repetitive in their actions (e.g. posting at fixed internals) 

3. Textual - the content of their casts is often very predictive of their quality

Their system is more thoughtful than you might assume and learns quickly.

Authenticity is the goal ✨

Our spam models puts accounts into one of four categories: 

Level 0 - not enough information to make a decision
Level 1 - an authentic users that other users will like 
Level 2 - a slightly inauthentic user that some users won't like 
Level 3 - a very inauthentic user that almost all people will dislike

If we're certain that someone is spammy, their account goes into level 3 and their activity is usually hidden under the "Show more" in conversations. 

In most cases, it's less clear. An account may be good for a while and suddenly turn spammy when a new airdrop launches. In this case Level 2 might be applied, which does something lighter like disqualifying you from boosts, but still letting your replies appear. 

Accounts are also re-evaluated by our model very often so that new information can be used to make a more accurate decision. We rank and re-rank roughly 4-5 accounts every minute.

Anyone who still decides to fault that spam system after reading that needs to go back and read again and again😂
I hope people understand that it’s better now here and you don’t need to worry about spam to have a great experience.

I had an issue with the new channels update until someone i onboarded(who was in spam) told me they were enjoying the app better now  cus their account is seen more, cus of channels they are members of(this was someone who used to always complain)

Right then, i decided to actually understand the pros of the update

it hearkens back to my early degen advice:

behave authentically.

people worried about spam and making choices wrt spam exclusion are /already/ behaving inauthentically.

just. fucking. relax. people.

be yourselves. and if that means you're a spammer at heart, own that shit and fuck off lol

A lot of us had that issue on joining. I’ll always make an example out of myself

 I joined in april and tbh i heard about farcaster cus of degen. So imagine what my main focus would have been on joining and i felt like i was meant to engage every post.

Took up to two months for me to start really understanding farcaster and that was when i just decided to be myself and i saw that there were changes in how i was connecting, compared to when i just joined farcaster

It was way harder and frustrating when i wasn’t being authentic
