Recording an episode soon with the Molecule.xyz and Pump.science guys. My first question: 'Is Desci a scam. Help me understand why not'. What else would you guys like to ask? (P.S.: Top 3 questions get a shout-out on the pod)

For new followers who aren't subscribed to the podcast yet: innovationcivilization.substack.com As a lay person I sit down with tech folks, prime ministers, Nobel Laureates, best-selling authors etc to break down everything on innovation, science, civilization and everything in btwn.

If DeSci can be the future of research, and a significant part of science is already funded through philanthropy, how could this type of funding evolve in a decentralized model? Would it become more transparent and accessible, or would it simply shift control to new actors?

Maybe this is a naive question and somewhat niche specific, but lately, I’ve been learning about CROs and Cloud Labs in biotech. I want to know if these concepts will be replicated in DeSci with a Web3 touch similar to how cloud centers have been labeled as DePIN with a Web3 element. Also, will DeSci create new markets that weren’t possible before? If so, what kinds of new markets could emerge?

Thanks for diving into this topic and recording a podcast about it, can’t wait to hear it. Here’s two questions that I’m curious about: - If DeSci aims to revolutionize science by decentralizing funding and publishing, how does it ensure it won’t just replicate the same inequalities and perverse incentives of the current system, only under a new technological framework? - Given that the traditional institutional model of science is deeply tied to career progression - through grants, tenure, and publication in high-impact journals - how can DeSci offer a viable alternative that not only disrupts existing structures but also provides researchers with the necessary incentives and recognition to advance their careers?

How do we balance scientific integrity decentralization? (ie is there a review process and how do you keep that decentralized)

Have a good thread of questions here that Molecule & co never really answered from 3 years ago. My experience with this iteration of DeSci is that the people involved are money folks, more interested in building a financial moat than actually engaging with researchers and contributing to research. It might work. Unfortunately, it plays firmly into the hands of the speculative cycle of crypto, has ironically aligned itself with big pharma, while doubling down on systems like IP-NFTs and now even memecoin style mechanics that aren’t compatible with the long-term approach required in most scientific research. I think as is, we have at best a decentralized funding for new IPs or launch of spinoffs/biotechs - which can both generate revenue somehow. What is the path towards funding basic, fundamental, explorative (you name it) research? I don't see it in current DeSci proposals
