Might be alone in this opinion, but Trump is a symptom of a root cause, and I don't see that addressed much.  IMO, address the cause, and youll heal the symptom(s).

I think the root cause may be even simpler than that. Nation states were built for the printing press world and can no longer function in the internet world.

I wholeheartedly agree.  It just seems so obvious to me that this divide and conquer strategy is a deflection to see the ever-growing divide of top vs bottom.

I think the entire political scene we're in is part of the same root cause. 

Democracy has been captured and the entrenched bipartisan system is the handcuffs we're all trapped in now. 

Nothing about the entire process of primaries and elections reflects the will or needs of the ppl anymore.
