The Farcaster protocol was launched in 2020 and has been in private development for most of that time. However, it is currently gaining momentum among Web3 enthusiasts. According to Dune Analytics, more than 200,000 unique users have signed up for a Farcaster account since its initial launch in 2020. The largest increase in the use of the protocol was recorded in February 2024 with the launch of frames on Warpcast.

Farcaster uses registry contracts and hubs as technology. They are important for creating accounts, managing data, and authorizing messages. Each user is identified by a unique number (fid), which is assigned to the Ethereum address during registration. Storage Registry: provides an opportunity to rent storage by making payments in Ethereum. Storage prices are set in US dollars and converted to ETH using the Chainlink oracle. Key Registry: Responsible for keys for applications. Keys can be added or deleted at any time.
