To me, the biggest problem with "proof of human origin" is that "human-created" vs "AI-created" is a false binary. Most art and code I create involves many rounds of interaction between me and models. I suspect most interesting things made this decade will be like this https://x.com/trentmc0/status/1794333215290982702

A similar issue exists already in social media platforms that try and battle “bots”.

I agree with the cybernetic approach you describe, unnecessary to introduce distinction when its a loop BUT - the distinction between artificial and human agency is essential (contrary to what trent says) IF ONLY for epistemic reasons eg. identifying a process, intent, internal world model, etc

The important part to me is cryptographic provenance that can be tied back to some entity with a reputation that I can decide to promote or ignore. I'm hoping that in a few years, the idea of letting raw, unsigned, anonymous text hit your eyeballs will seem barbaric.

Some countries are creating laws forcing creators to include when a piece comes from an human or from an AI. There is a limbo there.. with how we all operate.. this is not a binary thing.. vscode has an AI, should we include "made with an AI" in our code following these laws? what about photos from cameras with AI?

not sure what to call it, but it seems that novelty becomes more unattainable over time without sufficient recordkeeping to cover all the choices. a quality like sybil/collusion-resistance is correlated to "humanness" or "constitutionality", but it may be more unopinionated than pop culture would frame it.

I can't believe I'm about to say this to you of all people.... But I think what people actually want is proof of work 😛. And by that I mean it feels better to reward humans who have put some amount of time into the content than to reward folks who ran a command in under a second, posted the result and moved on.

Absolutely, Vitalik. The blend of human creativity and AI collaboration is the future of innovation, making the distinction between "human-created" and "AI-created" increasingly blurred and obsolete.

I'd suggest if you aren't using technology in your creation of literally anything, you are going to be left behind. Obviously, there are skills that require little to no tech, and these are the exception, somewhat. But!!! Even many of these depend on technology; tech made and honed by humans.

I dislike Trent‘s premise. I know that he‘s fine with „joining the machine,“ and that‘s not someone I‘m willing to accept

I agree, especially if you train up an AI with your own artistic style(s). There needs to be legal protection and AI security that allows creators to protect themselves from the copy+paste culture. AI should be a scalable way to increase the skill of incredible artists, and help everyone become an artist. 👏

The interaction between humans and artificial intelligence will become the main trend in future art and technological creation, which is a forward-thinking idea. Through this interaction, humans and artificial intelligence can complement each other, creating more creative and imaginative works.

AI needs of human created assets to be able of creating, very simple. Else there wouldn't be training phase and so, no model at all

That said, do your ideas also not stem from interactions with others and experiences you draw from externally? It is said that we cannot conjure a truly 'original' thought or idea. It is impossible for us to do. So, in a way, we function just as the AI does through its complex process of combining ideas, no?

We need to change the terminology. It should refer to the act of pursuing profits made by people who are not made by humans and those who are not made by AI.
