The skiff situation is a good reminder of why decentralized ecosystems are so valuable. Challenge question @dwr.eth @v : how far along is Farcaster in this regard? If hypothetically your team got acquihired by Facebook (or Tencent, or...) tomorrow, how well would the ecosystem be able to keep going?

assume malicious acquirer. for ecosystem to survive intact would need: 1. decentralized contracts 2. decentralized hub network 3. easy to use client with 80% warpcast parity 4. good steward for protocol governance.

In addition to what @v said, I would say having a solid, open source dual platform (iOS / Android) mobile client is critical. So much of Farcaster usage through Warpcast is on mobile and there's no clear 2nd mobile client today.

The situation underscores the resilience of decentralized ecosystems. It's not just about avoiding single points of failure; it's ensuring that power remains distributed... thanks for sharing insights @dwr.eth @v

$DEGEN community alone /degen at 50mil market cap would be resilient enough to build a new client and fork hubs to hold the founder accountable. The community cannot be acquire hired

This may be a bid morbid but the driving thought experiment at Fileverse is: can people continue using the dApp and manage their content if the founders die unexpectedly🫣 Being smart contract first is key to this, second is multiple storage options for users w/ e2ee https://warpcast.com/koeppelmann.eth/0x35ed9349

Believe I’m one of the first folks to mention and invite Vitalik to farcaster/ lens / mastodon (2022 before the tweets:) Here’s my neutral perspective since we’re involved with all 3 protocols. -

The most critical centralization vector in Farcaster rn, is Warpcast. Whoever controls Warpcast, controls the ecosystem. They can force hub changes, change the smart contracts (by pointing hubs to new ones). Maybe not today, where 20% or 30% of the users are more conscious about these things. But with 1m DAU? Easy.

If FB acquired Waropcast today, they could do a proprietary hard fork of the hubs and stop syncing with the rest of the network. 99% of users wouldn't notice. FC is proprietary now. Rn, the only defense we have against this so far is the popularity of frames. But 99% of devs use neynar, so...

I feel absolutely rugged by Skiff, having solely using it for email and docs it is also a good reminder that not having a native token (equity token) is not good for decentralization also that having VCs is a threat as they add extra pressure to sell out and exit when they see ROI
