As man gets stronger, man vs nature conflicts become less existential, and so "consumer demand" for the next marginal improvement gets lower. Man vs man conflicts, on the other hand, stay at a similar level, because both sides get stronger. Illness is the last frontier of man vs nature. This century we will conquer it. Man vs man conflict cannot be eliminated, though with better institutions it can be reduced to a much lower level than today.

Feeling like conquering illness is closer than we think with all the genome stuff going on. War on the other hand ; hopefully we can just outsource it to robots and make it more of a game but hard to see it going away.
