Why not develop a centralised AI, focus all our effort on it, then once it's so powerful that it can solve all our problems, ask it to build a decentralised AI and get rid of the centralised one?

I think you should do the same for a cure for cancer or immortality in order to differentiate if (2) is mainly due to anti-monopoly sentiment or actual AI doom sentiment. also wonder if the results would remain clear if these were oligopolies instead.
