firstly glad you've covered this topic, imho super important as lots of projects these days are disguised as aligned protocols, when in reality it's are just classic ecosystem platform grab leveraging builder economy as growth or go to market. https://warpcast.com/wijuwiju.eth/0xcca3ca2d

I'm of the mindset atm that the only real achievable alignment would be within the protocol itself, the autonomous nature of the chain. If it becomes Web 3.0, the actors will be as diverse as you can imagine, with all kinds of various and competing at times interests. The Chain is where any real lasting rails can be placed.

Alignment: ok Alignment as virtual signaling to extract value from community: not ok.

Do you understand that you’re (rightfully, ofc) praising open source as a way to ‘reduce the risk of proprietary lockin’, yet don’t seem to acknowledge the huge lockin that Etherscan has as a block explorer? We’re trying to break that with the Verifier Alliance, an initiative started by Sourcify, us, blockscout and other smart contract verification providers, but until the EF gets a precise stand, every chain will continue to use and want Etherscan as the default and (in some cases) the only block explorer “because it’s the default on Metamask” (I literally got this as a reason a few weeks ago) Some chains even tell us that getting Etherscan is ‘Ethereum aligned’, hence they don’t choose us or any other explorer, for that matter. Would love to talk to you about this topic, that It really delicate and not discussed enough (I’m trying to talk about it as much as possible from my side)

Thank you for writing this article. I agree that separation of powers is important for neutrality, but I think there is also a need to know how and what to fund - to avoid one entity be the sole funder (probably this tends to be more on the funding approach & community side - less related to alignment).

"You can only be a meritocracy if merit is defined" Never thought about this bf and it is so true. Thank you for providing this fore-sight-based vision to us all for Ethereum to become the strata for the better system our minds hearts know is possible.

why is it important to align projects built on ethereum? if someone wants to build something on aws, they can do whatever they wish and deploy it there without worrying about alignment or culture ofc it’s better if we’re all building in the same direction, same approach but ethereum is still quite far from being adopted by masses and introducing alignment can only slow this adoption down so whenever people want to build something, they don’t have to ask themselves if their project is aligned on 1, 2, 3 but focus on the problem they’re solving and deploying the code on ethereum end users wont be concerned if it’s open source or else but they will be concerned about and choose an app on ethereum vs aws or smth else because of the benefits of using blockchain
