Cross-posting a thought on staking from the other app: ------ Perhaps we should recognize that 32 ETH is much more of a barrier for stakers than bandwidth reqs, and temporarily do a trade where we up the bandwidth reqs a bit and in exchange drop the staking deposit minimum to eg. 16 or 24 ETH. It's net-good for both staking accessibility and scale. Then once we figure out peerdas, bandwidth reqs go back down, and once we figure out orbit SSF, the deposit minimum can drop to 1 ETH.

agree, already solo staking validating Gnosis - if it would be 1 ETH would start solo staking Ethereum today

πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ I’d solo stake if the requirement was lowered. Unless you got involved in the space before 2021, acquiring 32 ETH is unachievable for the average person in the developed world, and ludicrous for almost everyone in the developing world.

I like this. There is want from people to participate in staking who don't have 32 ETH, but might have 8 or 16 to spin up a node. look at the success of /rocketpool -- huge community of stakers under the 32ETH barrier.

there are many ways to stake without having 32eth. for example you only need 8th with rocketpool. i think the 32eth req is a non issue.

Been staking since genesis and the only complaint I have is for better rotation of proposals among validators, and to prioritize older validators. I saw a new validator hit a 65eth block reward (2nd proposal), its just unfair for solo stakers.

In your opinion are the protocols built on top of ethereum that lower the bond a node operator must supply not effectively addressing this already?

But there’s already many options to solo/home stake with significantly less than 32 ETH (e.g. obol, stakewise, rocketpool, etc)

16 ETH is still out of reach for me, but two friends of mine would put our funds together to make this work.

Lowering the ETH requirement could get more folks involved in staking, which is great for decentralization. But watch out for possible hiccups like network congestion, unexpected centralisation from staking pools, security risks, economic imbalance, etc.

While we are in the subject of staking, when the Pectra update is done (I know it's sounding like it will be a 2 piece update), won't increasing the amount of ETH allowed per node lower the number of nodes out there? Doesn't that run counter to the (I assume) goal you have with this bandwidth/ETH tradeoff you are suggesting in this cast?

Lowering the cost to stake would be massive. If Ethereum wants to be Web 3.0, making it more accessible to further decentralize and increase security has to be a priority.

I was strongly in favor of gas limit increase earlier this year. But now I am a bit puzzled where this push for the blob number increase comes from when even the current offering has not yet entered "price discovery mode"?
