I've become more appreciative of crypto conference culture. Its value add is: it gives the benefits of cross-org in-person person coordination, serendipitous connections, weak ties, etc, without everyone being gravitationally pulled into NYC and SF. It's maybe the only institution to have successfully done this.

I think I just self-select the people I end up interacting with? The conference ecosystem has lately been evolving from "one dominant event" to "archipelago of colocated events" which I think has been a very positive change.

Granted, I'm sure there are low quality things I don't see. But surprisingly enough, I think the colocations themselves seem to self-select by quality! (ie. good events pop up around good events, scam events pop up around scam events)

I’ve found the 2 I’ve been to pretty overwhelming. Dunno how you guys do it. DevCon and EthDenver both seemed closer to pop-up cities than conferences. Maybe organizers should lean into that vibe. Kinda Venice Biennale or the old World Fairs. A kind of overlay city-on-a-city. Like the China Mieville story.
