Trivia: when I went to college to study  graphic design, one of my main inspirations was techno/party flyers.
Some time later I realize the cruel reality that one cannot make a living out of flyers 😅. But I used to collect them for years.

hehe, well many know studios grew up from flyers/music posters. Designers  Republic also come from music DIY scene. !!!

Extra bonus: I still have many, many folders like the one bellow with flyers. 
(mostly late 90s, early 00s) and from different cities (mostly Porto, but also, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona and London)

Ha! Not true. Just like with art, you make flyers to build a bankable portfolio and impress people. Then you use that social capital to make money in a more stable corporate economy. Simple!

On a more serious note: I think young designers are losing out not having things like flyers to cut their teeth on. 25 with a master's degree, they start designing super legible web sites, with no chance of creative chaos in between.
