Mushi-shi: The Shadow that Devours the Sun An anime not for everyone, to say the least, but certainly for anyone who wants to shed light on human mysteries. Ginko as our protagonist, being the most sincere and suave guy you could probably imagine, doesn't miss a chance to research the nature of the mushi. In this special "Hihamukage", he comes into a village which suffers from an unnatural darkness caused by an eternal eclipse. How is this possible and are there any mushi involved in this perilous situation caused by the missing sunlight? Ginko knows that you can't take anything for granted, therefore he has to do two things: convince the people of his earnest actions and restore the state being thought of as granted, where there's enough sunlight for life to flourish. The story is as innovative as it has been the whole series along, and the mystery stays on a level for itself.

Jujutsu Kaisen S1 eps 11 : 'Narrow-minded' Nanami easily emerges victorious against Mahito, but he is able to survive by manipulating his own soul to change his form. Yuji bonds with Junpei over a shared love of movies. Over dinner with Junpei's mother, Yuji tells Junpei that he doesn't want to kill because he feels it would make him value human lives and relationships less. Junpei's mother is killed overnight when one of Sukuna's fingers, planted by Mahito, attracts cursed spirits. Mahito convinces Junpei that one of his school bullies, Shota Ito, did this, planning to lure in Yuji so they can get Sukuna on their side. Yuji arrives at Junpei's school just before Junpei can kill Ito.

Jujutsu Kaisen S1 eps 10 : 'Idle Transfiguration' Mahito teaches his ideology to Junpei: as a cursed spirit capable of changing the very shape of a person's soul, he sees people as disposable. Junpei, happy at being told he can kill without feeling guilty about it, has a confrontation with his teacher, who had turned a blind eye to Junpei's bullies. He is about to kill his teacher when Yuji interrupts. Nanami confronts Mahito in the sewers, and during their battle, he realizes that the transfigured humans Mahito makes are actually still alive, self-aware, and in suffering. Nanami's work hours hit overtime, and he begins to use his full power to fight, surprising Mahito.

Perfect Blue The story is centered around Mima Kirigoe, the lead member of a pop trio who's decided to go solo as an actress. Her small recurring role in a direct-to-video series ends up turning into a big break, but the part and a subsequent photo shoot involves... compromising situations, to say the least. On top of all this, she's got a stalker that knows every intimate detail about her life and is posting it on the Internet. And then the murders start, and her sanity starts fraying. This film was Satoshi Kon's big break, and you know why when you watch it. The line between reality and fantasy blurs more and more as the film goes on, and you wonder if it's either all in her head, part of the direct-to-video series, or for real. And you will be scared. I was watching this in broad daylight in my dorm on move-in day for the returning students, and I was still scared out of my wits. And the plot twists. My god, the plot twists. In general, the plot is going to blow you out of the water.

Jujutsu Kaisen S1 eps 9 : 'Small Fry and Reverse Retribution' Junpei Yoshino skips school to go to the movies and witnesses the classmates who bullied him getting their faces transfigured and dying. He chases after the culprit, Mahito, and asks to be taught how to control cursed energy. Mahito teaches Junpei his sadist beliefs about human existence, as he himself is a curse born from human hate. Yuji and ex-salaryman jujutsu sorcerer, Kento Nanami, investigate and encounter two cursed spirits. During the fight, Yuji reveals his cursed technique: using cursed energy to amplify the power of his punches and superhuman strength. Nanami deduces that the "curses" they're fighting are actually transfigured humans. Nanami sends Ijichi and Yuji to investigate Junpei while he goes to confront Mahito.

Jujutsu Kaisen S1 eps 8 : 'Boredom' Nobara and Megumi meet the Kyoto Jujutsu Tech students they will be competing against in the exchange event: second-year Mai Zen'in, who is Maki's twin sister, and third-year Aoi Todo. Todo challenges Megumi to a fight and batters him, almost bringing him to his snapping point, but Panda and Toge stop Todo. Maki reveals to Nobara that she cannot use cursed energy and has to rely on cursed weapons to fight. Gojo accuses Kyoto's principal Yoshinobu Gakuganji of purposefully sending the first-years to their deaths against the curse-womb. He informs Gakuganji about Jogo, Sukuna, and the talent of current students like Yuta Okkotsu and Yuji, warning that a revolution is coming. A month later, Mahito kills three high school students at a movie theater, and is confronted by a teenage boy who can see him.

Haikyu!! 2nd Season The story is the best one you can get from a sports anime. Of course there's nothing complex, such as a great mystery or an awesome plot full of twists and something like that. Nevertheless, it's still awesome and original. We actually get some background on almost every character, even the less important ones. Our main characters are a yin-yang duo: they are opposites of each other, and yet, they become a single destructive weapon for their team. We also have Hinata's ambition on the Little Giant and the rivalry between Tobio and Oikawa. But overall we have a typical shounen plot: a lot of action given by a group of friends trying to become the strongest.

Jujutsu Kaisen S1 eps 7 : 'Assault' After Jogo's failed attempts to kill Gojo, Gojo explains his ability: he can manipulate speed and the cursed energy around him into an "infinity" that slows down any attacks before they hit him; therefore, his attackers cannot touch him at all. Gojo transports to Jujutsu Tech, picks up Yuji, and warps back in seconds to teach Yuji about Domain Expansions. Jogo's Domain Expansion is destroyed when Gojo launches his own, Infinite Void, as his is more powerful. He traps Jogo in infinity and decapitates him. Before they can find out who Jogo is working for, Hanami escapes with Jogo's head. Geto, Jogo, and Hanami go to a void where the cursed spirits are hiding out, among them the newly-born Mahito. They plan on sealing away Gojo in the Prison Realm and releasing Sukuna.

Kenpuu Denki Berserk Berserk is an amazing anime. Although I heavily disagree with starting the first episode in a time line after the last episode in the series as it has discouraged more then a few people who I have had to set strait. After you get to the meat of the story, and the relationships between Guts, and the other members of The Band of the Hawk you will find yourself in a late night cram session feeding your brain with episode after episode of Berserk. All in all this anime has everything I wanted. Friendship, love, betrayal, and a lot of blood and gore to set the pace. All set in a very adult, and mature tone. The best part is it's is all done correctly. https://myanimelist.net/anime/33/Kenpuu_Denki_Berserk

Ping Pong the Animation The story of Ping Pong The Animation is unexpectedly complex while simple at the same time. It's not a light-hearted watch but nor is it deep enough to drown. The story follows multiple characters, highlighting Peco and Smile, while developing them all in amazing ways. There is always something to look forward to, whether there's a cliffhanger or not. Ping Pong The Animation feels like such a smooth watch; there are no bumps along the way. Doubts were had by many people before it started airing, but those were all cleared in the first episode. Not once did the story break down. It was solid throughout it's duration and left us on an incredibly strong ending. Unfortunately, it's an ending that leaves you begging for more even though there is no more that can be done. It leaves a somewhat small void.

Jujutsu Kaisen S1 eps 6 : 'After Rain' Megumi and Nobara train with the second-year trio to get ready for the tournament, which is set to take place in a month. In exchange for his heart back, Sukuna tricks Yuji into making a deal that will allow him to take over his body for a minute, without being able to harm anyone, when he says "Enchain". The pact is erased from Yuji's memory as part of the deal, and Yuji is resurrected. He awakens and Gojo tells Shoko to hold off on reporting Yuji's resuscitation, intending to keep it a secret for as long as possible, aware that the Jujutsu higher-up orchestrated his "accidental" murder. He begins training Yuji to manage his cursed energy. Meanwhile, Geto tells Jogo to use a special-grade cursed object called the Prison Realm to subdue Gojo, as he is too strong to be killed, but Jogo promises to kill him. Jogo ambushes Gojo while he is on his way to meet the Jujutsu Tech principal.
