THE ENIGMA OF FLORA GILBERT When I was 15, I visited a chemist on my street to buy medication for my migraine. That's where I met a beautiful girl around my age. She had a lovely physique, and I was drawn to her. I wanted to approach her, thinking it would be great to befriend her and maybe even find out which school she attended. Who knows, we might have registered for the same WAEC lessons together. As I struggled to muster the courage to speak, she beat me to it. "Hi, my name is Flora Gilbert. Nice meeting you," she said with a smile. I quickly introduced myself as Bianca, returning the smile. There was no need for a handshake as she was already leaving the chemist while I was still waiting for my drugs. As I walked home, I had an eerie feeling that someone was following me. A few days later, I met Flora again on my way to school, the thought of telling her about my dream came up but I dismissed it. She seemed to be on an errand to get breakfast, so I started the conversation this time. "Hi Flora, where do you live and which school do you attend? And shouldn’t you be in school or in your uniform?” She mentioned she lived down the street, but didn't give me her house number. I pointed out my house, just a few blocks away. She didn't give a clear reason for not being in school, but her curious expression caught my attention, it felt like she had more to say or questions to ask or even needed a favour. However, I was in a hurry to get to school, so I didn't dwell on it. That weekend, I ran into Flora again at the town library. We ended up studying together, and I was impressed by her intelligence and love for reading.
