They’ve kinda ruined the Tom Bombadil character in Rings of Power. From inscrutable and indifferent to worldly affairs he’s now an exposition mouthpiece and uncharacteristically concerned with the world.

It’s decent enough to watch. Somewhat better than S1 I’d say, modulo this sin of overdeveloping stuff best left unexplained. Strictly premium mediocre and close enough to both the spirit and specifics of the world sketched in the silmarillon for me. It’s not as unwatchably terrible as the sniffy Tolkien nerds would have you believe.

Is it even worth watching S2? S1 was .. uninspiring (from my perspective as a big book fan). You and I probably agree that Bombadil is an S Tier character.

So sad when this happens.  Had so much potential to play with

Part of what made him so unique was his carefree detachment from the larger narrative, and altering that to make him more involved in worldly matters could easily strip him of his enigmatic quality.
