Currently reading The Body Keeps the Score about the neurophysiology of trauma. While I haven’t experienced any trauma of the severity the book talks about, it’s a pretty powerful model. A lot of all memory, especially somatic memory, is traumatic memory. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Body_Keeps_the_Score

In the context of the Israel-Palestine conflict, it made me think of a collective version of a popular line: hurt peoples hurt peoples. Both Jews and Arabs have a deeply traumatic recent historical memory and they’re just reproducing it on each other.

Love this anecdote from Scott Alexander where he didn’t think much of the book initially but then one of his clients read it and her severe trauma symptoms vanished https://x.com/visakanv/status/1652548739876409344?s=46&t=1ZW6Ake4qChPZxyoRqBUQw
