Kinda interesting that most people conflate failure and rejection when young because for most life-stage critical things the two are the same (landing a date, finishing a degree, getting a job) and never deconflate The two are decidedly not the same but the conditioning persists lifelong for most.

Most of the times failure in hindsight seems less severe since you have context as to what actually mattered
