Society is now locked in an existential struggle with itself to decide what archetype will replace “consumer” the way “consumer” replaced “citizen” in the 1950s

No, it ain’t “creator” or “builder” or any such high-energy positive archetype. It will be a low-energy least-resistance archetype of unrepentant mediocrity. “Airdrop-farming degen” is a crypto-local version of whatever the general version will be.

I think the replacement is “user”…eg “I’m an android user vs iOS user”…basically a continuation of the “consumer” thread as far as identity goes. Although if we’re looking at archetype from a psychic viewpoint (in a Jungian archetype sense) it’s a continuation of archetypal identity

“Member” seems like the emerging label catch all in online communities. Followers seems too much like “population” — not active enough. Consumer and Citizen are both low-activity default yet active roles, so Member or Participant seems to fit. Contributor, Creator, Builder are all high energy

1) perhaps consumer has a bit more to run before a real transition like the 50s. 2) when it does transition perhaps ‘viewer/user’
