A lot of talk about web3 advertising.

Feel like I should put a video out on this — seems to me that the most critical thing to have a durable business is to have a media surface that target customers check multiple times a day.

at the risk of overly simplifying this, advertising systems are basically a combo of 3 things:

1. inventory — number of ads * audience

2. data — how you know who to show the ads to

3. tech — how your system sells, shows and learns about ad serving and performance

For me, this is key. Every big advertising business starts out by stacking a TON of inventory and data.

Google → search, YouTube, mail
Facebook → Blue, Instagram
Amazon → Amazon

Same with Uber, Instacart, Netflix etc.

INVENTORY, INVENTORY, INVENTORY!

So if you're a capital allocator looking for a web3 ads play, here's my recommendation:

Look for a product that users open and use multiple times a day while identified by their wallet address.

1. assume everyone can see the same blockchain data you can → hard to build a moat there

2. has there been a proven correlation between past onchain actions with future onchain actions? Unclear but let's say yes.

3. do you have some offchain data moat you can acquire? I'd be looking for that.
