I take an interdisciplinary approach to locate repeating patterns across domains. From the cybernetics branch, certainly Bateson and their ecologies are foundational, but I’d say Simondon’s read on cybernetics and works on Phil of Tech consume may have influenced me more personally.

To regulate or adapt to its environment, a system must possess at least as much variety as that environment presents. Design systems with sufficient diversity to handle the many possible states they might encounter.

Nice. Yes some interactions become less ‘valuable’ when monetized. Such as paid shilling being less valuable to recipients than authentic word of mouth. Maybe techniques like credit clearing could be helpful in keeping exchanges local for network value reintegration.
