Farcaster is one of the more successful projects to leverage ENS. Instead of critiquing how "ENS-aligned" FC is, perhaps it would be better for the ENS team to reflect on the limitations of ENS that Farcaster had to overcome.

there's some confusion around farcaster names, so let me clear this up: 

- your username on farcaster is ALWAYS an ENS name
- one kind of ens name is the farcaster name (v.farcaster.eth shown in client as @v)  
- the other kind of ens name is the L1 name (dwr.eth shown in client as @dwr.eth)

Farcaster names like (@dwr.eth) are also ENS names using the L1 ENS standard. 

We show these in full (dwr.eth) so that you're aware they're a fully onchain, decentralized name controlled by the user, and not by Farcaster.

Farcaster has always been fully ENS complaint for all our usernames, full stop.

Farcaster names like (@v) are actually defined at the protocol level as (@v.farcaster.eth) using a standard ENS CCIP read. 

We truncate the names to (v) when shown in the app because its a bit tedious to type @v.farcaster.eth or show it in every user interface. 

Farcaster names are controlled by us. They're free so its easy to sign up, but we prevent squatting.

@tormential.eth is unruggable, you own it onchain and you paid for it. 

@tormential (which is under farcaster.eth), is not owned by you and was given to you for free by farcaster, under terms and conditions which state that it can be taken away from you if you impersonate, scam etc as determined by farcaster.

So what’s the argument in favor of Me switching from @tormential to @tormential.eth (which I own)?

Dumb question perhaps.. but does that mean that sending money to the address dwr.farcaster.eth directs it to the primary eth wallet linked to the FC account the same way sending money to dwr.eth would link to an associated ETH address using ENS?

Someone should build a farcaster ENS resolver that resolves vrypan.farcaster.eth to my first verified address. (Yes, there is a problem with ordering, it should be solved too).

Sending tokens/eth to a farcaster user or whitelisting them, etc, should be trivial, without the need for various lookups, frames, tools, or even a farcaster client.

I know that fnames are (or used to be?) .farcaster.id subdomains, but no one is using .id. ENS tooling has advanced a lot since then, I feel that we can have cool .eth subdomains. (Maybe .warpcast.eth, if wc is the source of trust).

interesting, I did not know about the *.farcaster.eth part. Farcaster is mich more ENS aligned than I thought 

q: does this mean @git has (or can have) control over git.farcaster.eth? ie can I edit the records on the ENS name

💯— I remember since very early on here we were able to bring our ENS names and it was fully compatible with Farcaster names.

I think you should then get your degen.eth ENS subs and add support for ENS subdomains to be used as your farcaster username. degen.eth subs actually live on Degenchain and resolve via CCIP. The parent (degen.eth) is locked in a multisig and held by @jacek @degen and @coopahtroopa.eth
