Farcaster

I used to think that bots on Farcaster were problematic because of spam, but it's bigger than that.

If I respond to a bot, I feel like an idiot who wasted his time building a connection with a ChatGPT wrapper. 

It makes me suspicious of new users, and I tend to respond primarily to people I already know. This means that it's harder for genuine new users to build relationships on the network.

It could be fine for social *media*, but it's bad for the social *network*. 

What would be the ways to mitigate that?

I onboarded @pupesoul when I met her at her art gallery, but she is being marked as spam in some cases too, (I'm assuming that in this case, "being marked as spam" is her comments being filed under "more replies"

@v why not optional KYC in onboarding and badge like X verified?

Can there be a clear communication of do’s and don’ts to the Farcaster community as a whole to understand how exactly it works
Imagine I saw that even new users who sign up get marked as spam
there are a lot of actual real users who are marked as spam


Umm... This scene might not be big enough to really prioritize this.... Either that or cryptopians need to get better at where they spend their time.... OR the entire culture has an achilles heel... Actually, based on the latest in security.. it's probably the last one.

I HAVE A PLAN! (but actually, I do have an idea that will benefit the network)

The issue of spammy content and bots is certainly a hard one to tackle, but one that is important to solve in order to continue to grow Farcaster to its full potential. I know the team at Warpcast and @dwr.eth and @v have work on multiple solutions to try and combat this issue, and while it has certainly help to hid some of the spam, it still seams very prevalent across the platform. 

Identifying spamming account and trends is important in order to stop it from happening. I've often heard Dan and V say that reporting spammy casts and accounts helps a lot to identify spam. That being said, most people don't want to spend the time going through and reporting dozens of spammy cast.

My proposal:
Incentivizes users to report spam.

While giving people 5 USDC for writing "banger casts" does help grow the network to some extend, it would be much better to spend on incentives that clear out accounts that are hurting the network.

Excited for what you guys are working on. I do think crowdsourcing legit users to catch bots and spam accounts could be really beneficial!
