With Snapchain live, we're starting to think about what's next. Growth is our top priority the and most obvious roadblock is the "Pay $3" screen when signing up.

Step 1 is to make it a lot cheaper. Thanks to Snapchain, our capacity is much higher and we can lower fees. We have a new FIP out (storage redenomination) that will lower fees to ~ 20c onchain. https://github.com/farcasterxyz/protocol/discussions/229

Why not add a guest mode? Let people sign up without paying, check out some posts, follow a few accounts, and even try posting once, it’s an easy way to let them get a feel for the network before deciding to pay @dwr.eth @ted

As far as I know, technically is 2$ + on-chain fees that are usually below 5 cents, but the FIP is solid(already shared feedback a week ago), reducing 10x to 20 cents seems a good step forward. Probably some minor thinking about reactions/casts final numbers, also 200 actions per day bandwidth, IMO too low 2k was too high but 500 seems the best. Many social media have a dynamic bandwidth and 150-200 actions is the minimum per the most spammy user, quality users get more than 500+. Since the protocol can't discriminate between users, 500 seems like a solid base and could be lowered any time later, if the data indicates that it needs lowering.

I was chatting with @skrovina today on what would make her use farcaster more and she said that she doesn't understand 80% of what's being talked about on the feed I gave her some suggestions but I do think its hard to find content that's not crypto-related on farcaster. It does exist but it's not easily discoverable or surfaced to users who aren't really interested in crypto industry topics/discussions maybe some interest tagging or something like that would help new users find content and other users that are interested in the same things

hell yeah. storage delegation is a very promising solution I can think of other ways but this is likely the most scalable. lfg

I would “sponsor” a random person - that would be kinda fun. Could be a cool miniapp. They would immediately become my FC friend too. Win win

It doesn’t matter if the fee is $3 or 1 cent, if users have to on-ramp to crypto you’re going to lose normies. Have you considered allowing for payment with Apple/Google Pay? (Maybe you off this but it’s been a while since I onboarded).

I get the growth focus, and lowering fees to 20c is cool, but I’m worried about this hybrid model with Storage Delegation. If apps like Warpcast can reclaim the storage from bots, doesn’t that give them too much power? I like that you can upgrade to being sovereign, but it still feels like a step away from true decentralization. Thoughts? 🤔
