We're looking for feedback on this, either in this thread or on Github. We'll be discussing this at the next protocol meeting on Aug 15 before we make a final decision. This change should be net positive for users and developers.

So all our storage is extended a year from when it was purchased? I know so many folx that have bought a ton. I’m on my third myself Any way to delete chosen ones from FARCASTER completely? For posterity reasons I want my first post to stay and since it is the oldest it will get overwritten. I learned as well that if you delete a cast in WARPCAST it still exists on other clients which was a shocker.

how do you define "existing"? all users who have taken an action on the protocol? or smth else? I guess I'd wonder, re the "payment for storage defends against spam" argument, would it be better to let "spammer" accounts' storage expire and force them to pay.

So with this change my existing storage units will be extended for a year but they'll also be roughly half the size so that means I need to pay for ~double the storage units right now if I want to keep all of my data?

Related note, I would really love to pay multiple years at once, or schedule yearly payments like a subscription. The storage details are a bit buried for the average user.

I know this is a way bigger convo than a random comment and you guys are already thinking about this probably, but the UX of buying storage and tracking usage is brutal. My unsolicited opinion: to subscription / recurring revenue model way sooner than later. It’s $5 a month to use Warpcast. $5 to signup and create your account and then you get a list of features, an immutable social identity, and x amount of initial storage. I don’t know how the math works but if your auto charging $5 monthly then I feel like that rev would possibly outweigh the storage costs and then be EV+? You can also just background charge this using Apple Pay, like how the Titan investment app works. Another model you could steal from them is refer 3 friends that signup = get 1 month free storage.

Are you also considering rebalancing the storage units? I mean, giving a bit more space for reactions than for casts. Since casts may actually occupy more space than reactions, I don't see why we should have half the reactions compared to casts.

Yes, love to see the registration cost go down! Also how about having one single limit for all content types combined (follow, cast, reaction, etc.), and leave it to the client to prioritize one over another if necessary? The reaction limit creates mental burden for me at the moment.
