Badges is just another word for reputation. Limiting it to the number of followers was never gonna work. But the power badge is still limited in its ability to detect legitimate, active users. Why not leverage open data to make more comprehensive determinations?

We've tried a lot of the onchain stuff, couldn't get it to work. Too many low quality accounts have credentials, balances, attestations etc. The best predictor of quality in our experience is "who likes your stuff". All the onchain signals can usually be purchased or grinded through by a dedicated airdrop farmer.

Btw, we could be wrong on this - and it would be easy to prove us wrong by building a better reputation system for FC. @neynar and others would likely pay for such a service!

have you seen any examples of recursive attestations that didn’t work? 👀 ie where trusted entity attests to trusted users and proliferates out from there? and what attestations and credentials did you consider?

I just want collaborative filtering so I can find my fellow weirdos instead of the cool kids. Luckily, thanks to this being an open protocol I can do this myself 🫡

When you say who likes your stuff do you mean something like what @fun built with farcasteruserstats? I think that has a core group of users who follow and use the like button more sparingly. https://warpcast.com/fun/0x3d8c96ba

Totally agree on this. The "onchain credentials" meme is dumb and majorly abused by airdrop farmers. No-one worth their salt is spending any time collecting credentials because they have intangible social capital, they don't need to prove it
