We're thinking a lot about this idea. The two paths are - storing data offchain using meta tags and embedding and expanding them in posts or building them natively as a message type. Both have important tradeoffs that need to be explored. If anyone is interested in this topic, we're open to draft FIPs.

I fear I’m losing this battle but I’ll repeat my pref: I want a scannable feed for discovery with no long form content. Long form should be in its own corner. Whether this is handled via the protocol or an app layer might not matter, but this is my very strong revealed preference (check my Twitter usage)

when jack was leaving twitter he made a point to remark that resisting long tweets was one of his biggest mistakes; realized over time he had chose religion and principles and tech limitations over what we clearly the best user experience: to have the best content meet the user where they are in any format they prefer

I've been thinking a bit about this. Was going to draft a FIP but switched gears. One proposal I added to /frames is to support markdown as meta tag. Another idea in the next cast:

I would +1 here. Some times nuance is needed and if it's a reply people miss it and then you start arguing on a wrong basis of discussion because the counterparty only read the first post.

Just implemented an experimental way to display long casts. Cast: https://warpcast.com/d11d.eth/0xbcc47d533419896854d26f524054b8f3718eba27

Feels like this should be supported natively, but it opens up for the question of where to draw the line. I could definitely imagine other types of message types being requested in the near future for novel functionality.

the composability of the text goes away with longer texts though. The shorter length also forces people to think more before posting. I think there might be a middle ground between having essay length and really short length

Better threading at the client level would be a nice stopgap until this is resolved

FYI, when it comes to writing in Japanese, it's even more limited than using the alphabet. For example, if I translate your post, it's 149 Japanese characters long. However, if I try to post that, only 109 characters fit, and I need to cut 40 letters.

I’m always glad to see how thoughtful you are about any changes or new features on FC, and how you open up a dialogue about these things with the community.

Big problem with short content is that it incentivizes engagement and discourages quality
