Should we rebrand Warpcast to Farcaster? We separated Warpcast (the app) from Farcaster (the protocol) a few years ago. We've heard from many new users that this is very, very confusing. People hear about Farcaster, search in the app store, can't find anything called Farcaster and then churn.

Brand identity usually accrues to a single name, and this helps word of mouth growth. Email may be the exception where Gmail, Outlook and others have established brands. Even other decentralized apps are unifying around a single name that they use to refer to their projects in all forms of marketing. No one thinks of ATProto or ActivityPub, they say Bluesky and Mastodon.

Tbh I’m not attached to farcaster as the name for the protocol, I just think it is actually important for the client to have a different name from the protocol I like the idea @runninyeti.eth suggested here. If the client becomes Farcaster maybe there’s an opportunity to rename the protocol for the sake of preserving this distinction https://warpcast.com/runninyeti.eth/0x2f31eb1d

Branding professional chiming in to say absolutely yes. Before even mentioning the name I have to address the fact that the branding should all be the Arch Gate logo as well with this change 🙏 . The Purple is and always has been one of the best organic brand signifiers (The Purple App!) and the arch is really strong. I'd say (personal opinion) the names were always too similar and would lead to confusion. At this point a consolidation seems to work best and as new clients emerge, with their own branding, this remains Farcaster, the OG client. I like @derek's suggestion of Farcaster (client) Farcaster API (protocol). Also while Warpcast is a cool product name, it feels off for what the product is. Warp implies something that just never seemed to fit or flow with the product in usage or branding, Iikely why so many people end up referring to it as Farcaster or FC. Cast btw, as has been discussed elsewhere, is EXCELLENT branding and should be highlighted at every turn.

I don’t think ‘Warpcast’ is the name of an app that gets a million actual users. It always sounded a bit silly, and bit in-jokey. Farcaster sounds competent, comprehensive, and it’s meaningful.

It’s 100% confusing but I’d follow the lessons of Polygon. Once your audience is confused and articles & documentation are written referencing both, the rebranding is almost too late. I’m not sure there’s a good answer at this point.

Yes no one knows what Warpcast is It’s too credibly neutral - it was to spur a third party app ecosystem But turns out the major clients building on Farcaster all have name recognition already like Coinbase, Zerion

1,000,000 % yes! You said the key reason: it’s too hard to explain two concepts to a user. (And imagine that you are also trying to onboard them to your own app which lives here. That makes three things)

Yeah, agree it’s confusing. You should stick to one brand. The difference between protocol and client isn’t that important—technical users will get it when needed.
