Daily rant: why do people like iMessage? - 2nd worst in spam (after telegram) - doesn't sync contacts and some conversations to desktop - lets one person have many identities (phone + email) - almost no one has pfps - tapbacks are boomer I get why people use it, but why do some people actually prefer it

- source? - yes annoying - merkle cofounder hardest hit - yes annoying - tapbacks are not boomer looks and feels really good, great integration with other apple services (find my, photos, maps, etc), don't have to think about backup, feels less sketchy than third party chat apps

- end to end encryption - location sharing - i have no issues with sync - media, link, doc management - i don't need to download/update etc. comes with the phone .... - blue bubbles 😆

Normal people (in the US at least) don’t care about any of this. iMessage is popular and preferred because Apple is popular and preferred. Outside of the US, WhatsApp is more popular if I recall correctly.

Instead of what? WhatsApp? UI is cleaner on iMessage. Don’t need pfps for ppl I actually know, tapbacks are sufficient for that too. Segregating “personal chats” from everything else is also a big plus 😄

- Never had issues with spam (might be country specific?) or sync. - Yes, boomers like me don't have pfps, but younger people usually do. - See above answer.

the contacts thing is one of the most annoying for me. embedded somewhere deep inside, apple remembers I used my university email to set up my phone, and iMessage contacts sync from there. so if I don’t add contacts using that email, it’ll never sync to iMessage
